Nuclear Power Is Not As Bad As Media May Presume
Nuclear energy is the world's largest source of emission-free energy. Nuclear power plants produce no controlled air pollutants, such as sulfur and greenhouse gases. The use of nuclear energy in place of other energy sources helps to keep the air clean, preserve the Earth's climate, and prevent acid rain. Of all energy sources, nuclear energy has perhaps the lowest impact on the environment, including water, land, and air resources.
There has been a lot controversy and bad feelings towards nuclear energy. Much of this is due to a lack of knowledge and fear, that every nuclear power plant has a high chance of blowing up and killing everything in a large radius. Although, because of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident in 1988, the opinion towards nuclear energy has been skewered badly.
Yes, Nuclear energy has many upsides. It also, like every other great source of energy, has its downs. It does pose a potentially devastating effect on environment if used improperly, and produces radioactive waste that needs to be sealed off for thousands of years until it posses no threat.
Although this does seem to have an environmental threat, many environmental activists seem to believe nuclear power plants are better than burning fossils fuels endlessly until we run out, and all the while releasing more and more greenhouse gasses into our atmosphere causing threats to our planet.
